Home, and always worth coming back to.
I feel so fortunate to call Canada home. After ten years in Toronto, I was ready for a change; but that’s just part of the deal when you’ve got a wandering soul. Still, no matter how far I roam, this country keeps surprising me. From the snow-capped Rockies to salty Atlantic shores, the buzz of Montreal to the calm of an Algonquin cabin, there’s so much to love… and so much I still haven’t seen.
Whether you're after a quiet week tucked away in the woods, a city escape with incredible food, surf sessions on the West Coast, or fresh East Coast butter-soaked lobster, Canada delivers… and then some.
Pro-ish Tips for
Canada
• Canada is huge.
Do not underestimate the size of the country. A flight from coast to coast takes over six hours. Either plan a few weeks or focus on just one region.
• Try a proper poutine.
Canadians are serious about a few things: being polite, hockey, and poutine. Fries, gravy, and cheese curds. Yum!
• Pick the right season.
Whistler for skiing or snowboarding? Winter. Hikes in Banff? Late spring to early summer. Exploring Toronto’s food and outdoor life? Summer is when the city comes to life with patios, and street festivals.
• Book campsites early
Canada has some unreal National and Provincial Parks, but they fill up fast, especially in summer. If you want to spend a few nights in the wild, a little planning goes a long way.
• Pack for all weather
Even in summer, evenings can get chilly and in the shoulder seasons, the weather can change fast. Layers are your best friend.
