I R E L A N D
Ireland sat at the top of my bucket list ever since teenage me sobbed her way through P.S. I Love You (with Leap Year getting an honourable mention). And in 2024, I finally made it. The endless green, the misty skies, the jaw-dropping cliffs: Ireland delivers in spades.
Every bit as cinematic as the movies promised, this little island is a dream for anyone craving a bit of adventure, looking to experience pub culture, or taste the best pint of Guinness you’ll ever have. But whatever you do… do NOT call anyone in Ireland British. Trust me.
Pro-ish Tips for Ireland
• Drive on the left.
And take posted speed limits with a grain of salt, those narrow, winding roads weren’t designed for 80km/h (even if the signs say otherwise).
• Eat (or drink) like a local.
Start with a hearty bowl of Guinness stew, boiled bacon and cabbage, a few pints of the black stuff, followed by a spice bag (IYKYK) and you’ll be well on your way to honorary citizenship!
• Spending Euros not Pounds.
If you’re crossing between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, come with both currencies.
• Venture off the beaten path!
While the Cliffs of Moher are stunning (if you catch them on a mist-free day), Ireland is all about the magical hidden gems.
• Pack for varying weather: drive ten minutes in any direction and the weather might take a total 180, so be prepared… especially for rain!
