5+ Lessons Southern Italy Taught Me
Living in a small town in Southern Italy was a huge change of pace after a decade in downtown Toronto. These are the lessons I learned during my year abroad.
Month 9 | Vietri sul Mare, Italy
Read all about month nine living on the Amalfi Coast. We finally had our permesso di soggiorno appointments, we visited Palermo, and Tys headed to Canada for a couple weeks while I stayed here on my own.
Month 8 | The Holidays in Vietri sul Mare, Italy
Month 8 was spent experiencing the holidays the Italian way: Christmas Eve dinner at our friend’s family home, struscio — Salerno’s social tradition, and navigated loss while being far from home.
Month 6 | Vietri sul Mare, Italy
Quiet moments, bookish escapes, and family time: Month 6 of living abroad in Vietri sul Mare, Italy, reflecting on routine, culture, and connection.
Month 5 | Vietri sul Mare, Italy
Month five in Italy was about slowing down. Based in Vietri sul Mare, we stepped out of a hectic summer and into routine — reading more, studying Italian, rebuilding daily rhythms, and enjoying quieter side trips to Rome, Tuscany, and Pompeii before the season fully shifted.
Month 3 | Vietri sul Mare, Italy
Month three in Italy brought heat, visitors, side trips, and a growing sense of rhythm. Based in Vietri sul Mare, we navigated public transport chaos, hosted friends from home, explored beyond our doorstep, and leaned into the slowness of summer along the Amalfi Coast — with a quick hop to Rome and London along the way.
